Burlington County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The county seat is Mount Holly. The county seat had been in Burlington, but as population moved away from the Delaware River a more central location was needed. As of 2000, the population was 423,394. This county is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area and is the largest of New Jersey's 21 counties. It is home to many that commute daily to center city Philadelphia for work.
Founded in 1677, The City of Burlington was once the capital of West Jersey. Then, travel to the Industrial Village of Smithville in Eastampton or visit the majesty of Batsto Village nestled in the Pinelands. Burlington County offers a glimpse of the founding of our nation, the war for its independence through the industrial revolution.
Often called the "Cradle of Emancipation", no other county in New Jersey has a richer black historical presence. Tour underground railroad sites, quaker meeting houses, historic sites on the state and national registers, one-room schoolhouses, learn of notable women in history who had a major impact on society, or visit the Historic Prison Museum, once home to the Boston Strangler. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 819 square miles of which, 805 square miles is land and 15 square miles is water. Most of the land in the county is coastal and alluvial plain with little relief. There are a few anomalous hills, however, and one of them, Arneys Mount, is the highest of not only the entire county but all of South Jersey at approximately 260 feet above sea level. The low point is sea level along the Delaware. The typography includes pineland forests and quaint towns, and strecthes across the width of the state from the delaware river to the Atlantic Ocean.

With nearly 600 farms, blueberries and cranberries in abundance, u-pick farms to cut your own tree farms, Burlington County is proud of its agritourism.
The Office of Cultural Affairs and Tourism plans for a full range of cultural programming sponsored by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders. In addition to annual favorites such as Earth Fair, the Fall Foliage Family Float Festival, and the Articulture Arts Festival, Cultural Affairs & Tourism coordinates a variety of exhibits, concerts and shows that promote public interest in cultural values, local and regional history, and the vibrant arts community in Burlington County. With the opening of the new Burlington County Amphitheater in Westampton, a whole new level of the arts will captivate audiences in an outdoor setting.
With over 2,100 acres slated for parkland development, Burlington County offers trails, recreational water access, picnic facilities, play areas, camping in the pines, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming and canoeing.P reserving the county’s heritage is also a key mission of the Board of Chosen Freeholders through the Park System. Preservation and restoration work at Historic Smithville Park will provide visitors with a window into the Industrial Revolution and the Historic Prison Museum tells the story of an intriguing and education-filled National Historic Landmark.
The county also had six public golf courses and eleven private or semi-private golf courses.
Atlantic County also boasts charming unique shops in many downtowns, antique shopping, flea markets, plazas and mall shopping. It offers fine dining, casual cafes, seasonal waterfront dining.
Burlington County College is a two-year public community college serving students from Burlington County. The school is located in Pemberton.
Burlington County is serviced by public transportation by the Riverline a light rail transit system from Trenton, New Jersey to Camden New Jersey with connections to NJ Transit (bus and rail transit), Amtrak, PATCO, and SEPTA trains.
